"Like watching plants grow"

He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come." -mark 4:26-29

Why did God feel the need to say this. Its an important question. Jesus ministered for 3 years. That's it. When we look at the words of Jesus, we must look at them as the words of a dying man who has but a short time to live and wants to make sure that if you know anything about life you know this. The above was one of those "this's". What is the kingdom of God Like. Like a seed germinating in the ground. Seeds are amazing things the can spend weeks months and years dormant and then spring to life. Even when life has begun out of them it can be another length of time before you see a plant. Once you finally see a plant it will be even longer till the plant is grown and mature. The kingdom of heaven is like that, it takes time. Take heart in the 4th sentence in the verse above. "Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, thought he does not know how." The kingdom of God is always doing something, whether you sleep or get up, day and night. God is working on growth of his kingdom. You don't always understand it, you don't always see it. Be rest assured, God is working. So if you're waiting on something, just give it time. Live the adventure.
